Feel out these scenarios…
Scenario 1:
You are relatively content and peaceful. You have goals, you have patterns you want to shift, and you’re excited to keep moving in that direction. You like who you are and the idea of growing fills you with joy because it will allow you to impact yourself, others, and the world in a more profound way.
Scenario 2:
You are unhappy, stressed, and hopeless. You have goals, you have patterns you want to shift, but you’re discouraged because it’s never worked out for you before and you feel really lost – confused even. You don’t like who you are and sometimes you feel like there is no way to fix all the things wrong with you.
How does each feel to you? Which do you identify more with?
The difference between these two scenarios is literally always our individual perspective and experience – and this is something you CAN shift.
For example… one person can be wrongly imprisoned for 10 years and come out on the other side more compassionate, more loving, and more understanding than they went in; while another person also wrongly imprisoned for 10 years comes out angry, hostile, and looking for revenge.
It is not the circumstance which dictates our perspective and experience, it’s us.
Another example… you’ve had a really bad day, and you snap at three different people in your less-than-mindful state.
- the first person gets really offended… they think: what did they ever do to deserve that from you?!
- the second person gets really angry… they think: how dare you lash out at me!!!
- the third person gets really concerned… they think or ask: what’s going on that has you feeling so on edge today?
It is not the circumstance which dictates our perspective and experience, it’s us. These three examples of people showcase that the same scenario looks and feel different for people based on how THEY are showing up, too.
So what is your perspective when you look at yourself?
Do you see a brilliant being bursting with opportunity? Or do you see something flawed, something broken, something that needs fixing?
How you view yourself directly impacts what you see as possible for yourself, as well as your ability to achieve it!
